Juno Beach

Here at Juno Beach Park, you can see how different the beach is compared to Dieppe.

The weather was pretty windy & I snapped a few shots in between the rain.

Yes Emily... They're racing horses up the beach. Cool, I love France, & the foods not bad either.

Hard to imagine trying go get up this beach (it was hard working without all the gear). It would have been a slaughter.

Dieppe's 65th Anniversary

Well I was at Dieppe they were celebrating the 65th anniversary. It wasn't planed that way it just worked out well. Here is a french band playing near the front of the parade.

Givenchy Road Canadian Cemetery

Looking up at the Vimy monument from the smaller & often over looked Givenchy Road Canadian Cemetery. All 22 solder burried here died in a mine explosion.

Vimy Ridge

Well... here I am again at Vimy. Wow twice in one year, how fortunate. There have been a few changes since I was here in April. Leaves on the trees, sheep on the lawn, & a third flag pole. I guess good things come in 3s.

Beaumont-Hamel, Caribou

At Beaumont-Hamel, the Newfoundland Memorial stands. This site offers a realistic & moving view of the battlefield. With remarkably well-preserved trench systems, the 51st Highland Division Monument (need to go again to see it), the "Danger Tree"; the halfway point in no mans land, and of course the mound with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment's emblem figure of the "Caribou". An information centre completes the visit with a reconstruction of a Newfoundland interior, information panels & a guided tour.

Beaumont-Hamel, Sheep

Here you see me at the forward British trench line at Beaumont-Hamel. All I need is a moustache & I'd look like my dad.

Ulster Tower

The is an exact replica of the Ulster Tower found near the city of Belfast on the training camp of the 36th Division. On 1 July this Div was caught between artillery fire from German & British guns.

Tea Time on La Somme

Here... I'm having the only "good" cup of tea in France. At the café/ gift shop behind the Ulster Tower, owned & operated by a nice Irish couple.

Franco-British Memorial, Thiepval

This memorial is visible for many km & stands 45m high. Its 16 pillars bear the names of 73,367 men, the "Missing of the Somme" who died in the battle of the Somme & have no known grave. In behind is a cemetery with both French & British graves. In the back right hand corner, you will find 2 lonely Canadian graves.

Poppie Field

Here is a poppie field in northern France. The bus made a quick stop for a couple of "Officers" to get out & snap a few photos for the group. I got off to take my own. Bad Graham, Bad!

Hostle in Arras

Here is me in the third floor window at the hostle in Arras. We got here a little late, it was at little tricky to find. The quarters were a little cramped, 3 bunk beds to a broom closet. But the place was clean & quiet. It was nice to bed down it was a long trip.
